Training

ABCD offers a two-prong training system that includes our onboarding trainings and our Continuing Education Catalog. Our onboarding courses: Basic Family Planning Training, Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice, HIV Education for Health Workers, and Program Requirements are offered multiple times a year. Our Continuing Education Catalog courses are each offered once a year and afterwards can be found as recordings on the “Webinars” tab.

All new ABCD Family Planning Counselors MUST take the Basic Family Planning Training and the Program Requirements Training.

It is STONGLY recommended that all Family Planning RNs, NPs, and PAs at ABCD sites take Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice .

All ABCD Family Planning Counselors MUST take two Continuing Education trainings, either live or as a webinar.

Basic Family Planning Training

ABCD’s Basic Family Planning Training is designed to give new Family Planning Counselors and Health Educators the content knowledge and functional skills to excel in Family Planning work. This training consists of two sessions of live virtual training and 11 self-guided online learning modules. Live sessions are designed for skills based practice while our eLearning modules are designed to deliver content counselors can return to as needed. Topics covered include: Family Planning Counseling, Reproductive Anatomy, Reproductive Justice, LGBTQIA+ Health, Contraceptives, STIs, Pregnancy Options, Working with Adolescents and More!

Currently the ABCD Training Team is working on returning the Basic Course to in-person instruction.

Current Live Zoom Session Dates: 

September 12th and 19th | 9:00am – 2:00pm (Must attend both sessions for credit)

Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice 

ABCD’s Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice is designed to expand the content knowledge and enhance the skills of practitioners participating in Family Planning Counseling. This training consists of 10 hours of self-guided online content and 10 hours of live skills based training. Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice is only available to RNs, NPs, PAs, and MDs. 

This course offers 15 CEUs. Please indicate if you are interested in CEU credit in your registration.

August 8th and 15th | 8:00am – 12:45pm (Must attend both sessions for credit)

November 7th and November 14th | 8:00am – 12:45pm (Must attend both sessions for credit)

HIV Education for health workers

ABCD’s Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice is designed to expand the content knowledge and enhance the skills of practitioners participating in Family Planning Counseling. This training consists of 10 hours of self-guided online content and 10 hours of live skills based training. Family Planning Training for Advanced Practice is only available to RNs, NPs, PAs, and MDs. 

HIV Education for Health Workers can be offered on-site at your clinic. If you have multiple staff members interested please contact Erin at erin.mcsweeney@bostonabcd.org.

ABCD Program Requirements Training

ABCD’s Program Requirements Training is designed to educate our sub-recipient staff on how to comply with the different requirements of our Family Planning program. Topics covered will include data reporting, billing, quality review information, and contraceptive orders!

This course is by invitation only, no need to register. If you would like to take this training as a refresher, please email Erin at erin.mcsweeney@bostonabcd.org.

ABCD IUD / implant Certification

ABCD is currently partnering with Paraguard to bring our staff a free IUD certification training. For our first training date, we are also partnering with Organon to conduct a Nexplanon training. Please indicate what trainings you are interested in on your registration form!

The Paraguard training certification will cover all brands of IUDs. Please check with your clinic for further steps needed to be able to implant IUDs at your site.

This training will be IN-PERSON at our Chauncy St. location. The address is 105 Chauncy St. Boston, MA 02111.

Paraguard is confirmed from 11:00am – 1:00pm

Nexplanon will be offered if enough people are interested from 9:00am – 10:30am
